Alarm Design Example 4 Alarm Design Example 4
The floor plan (right) shows a typical detached house with integral garage.

The installation uses inertia detectors and hence should be ok with pets.

This installation uses a blank end-station (mounted under the stairs or could be mounted in the garage) and a Remote Keypad in the hall. You could of course just use a simple control panel mounted in the hall.

In this case it has been decided that only the ground floor is to be alarmed and only the main living space and garage.

The magnetic contact at the front door is wired to the entry/exit zone on the control panel.

The magnetic contact at the rear door is wired to zone 3 on the control panel.

The Inertia detectors are all wired to zone 2 on the control panel.

The magnetic contact on the garage is wired to zone 4 on the control panel.

In operation any of the zones can be separately controlled.

The parts list for this installation is:

  • Control Panel - Blank End-station Type; i.e. the keypad is sited remotely from the control panel, which can be hidden. Honeywell (ADE) Accenta G4 range,Texecom Veritas R8 and R8+, Scantronic 9448EUR-95, and MDT Avanti XP, Pyronix Sterling 10, Scantronic 9x5x range, and the Texecom Premier range are typical examples. See Compare Blank End-station Control Panels for individual panel features. A stand-alone type control panel can be used instead of the blank end-station type - see Design Example 2
  • Back-up Battery - Any battery up to 7.0Ah can be used (2.1Ah if a compact panel such as the Accenta G4 Mini is used).
  • External Sounder - Any external sounder can be connected. The choice is on style and output - some sounders have two piezo sounders and are thus slightly louder. See Compare External Sounders for individual sounder features.
  • 1 x Matching Decoy Sounder - can be fitted with battery-operated flashing LED or with 12v-powered (from control panel) twin flashing LED.
  • 1 x Internal Sounder - choose either a simple piezo sounder such as the sound bombs or an internal sounder/strobe such as the INT500S.
  • 2 x Magnetic contacts - choose flush or surface, terminal or pre-wired.
  • 1 x Roller Shutter Magnetic Contact
  • 3 x PIR (Passive Infra-red) detector - can be standard, pet friendly or dual technology.
  • 1 x Personal Attack Button - choose from single or double push and plain or stainless finish.
  • 1 x 6 core alarm cable - the PIR and external sounder need 6 core cable, the magnetic contact only require 4 cores.
Extra detectors can be added to the system as required. The detectors can be wired to individual zones or wired in series into existing zones. For example if the first floor is to be alarmed then either individual PIRs can be fitted in the rooms or a single PIR fitted at the top of the stairs.
